@Shannon: RE-some feel that way, but are not the majority... I completely agree, which is why it irks me so much when the bitter & clueless few are set up in a popular magazine to represent the many. Grr, stabby.

@Michael: That's interesting!! It's funny, bc that was my original reaction ("there's no way those are real chicks"), but then I started thinking, "Well... real women DID write 'The Rules'... I think."
Hm, now I have to go back and read the article again with that in mine. Just picturing the men talking in girly voices and then insulting themselves in their real voices. I have to look at it again anyway though, because my next post is going to be writing about the men stuff. Although now I may have to tag on an extra paragraph covering *this* idea!

For what it's worth, I don't believe for a minute that any actual women were involved in composing that article. I've heard a dozen times that in women's magazines, all the supposedly male-authored articles are ghost-written by the magazine's regular (female) staff to make whatever point they think is most marketable to their audience. I see no reason to think men's magazines are any different.

Of course, knowing that the asterisked comments were probably written by the same people who set them up... Well, for my money, that just ups the entertaining trainwreck factor.

The really sad and frustrating thing here, is that I don't doubt there were real women on that panel--or at least that there are real women who would give this terrible advice. Just as I'm sure there really are men who most negative stereotypes could be accurately applied.

But in neither case are those people the majority!

I refer you here to the lyrics of one of my favorite Jonathan Coulton songs: http://lyricwiki.org/Jonathan_Coulton:Someone_Is_Crazy
